WIJNDOMEIN CRUTZBERG X HOEVE DE BIES

A Legacy Crafted in Oak and Wine In 2018, Wijndomein Crutzberg from Sint-Martens-Voeren presented a remarkable gift to mark the opening of restaurant Hoeve de Bies: an exceptional French oak barrique barrel with a capacity of 224 liters. This distinguished vessel, previously employed in the maturation of refined Chardonnay wines, was carefully selected under the expert guidance of winemaker Eugeine Ernest. This extraordinary barrel represents far more than a single moment in time – it embodies the genesis of a distinguished culinary and viticultural partnership between two passionate enterprises. French oak, renowned for its distinctive aromatic properties and subtle influence on wine development, provides the ideal foundation for aging our most exclusive selections. Each barrel carries within it a narrative of craftsmanship, heritage, and an unwavering commitment to excellence. This is not merely a vessel; it is the cornerstone upon which Hoeve de Bies has established its wine tradition, a tangible testament to artisanal mastery and meaningful collaboration between two visionary establishments.

Proces

In 2018, to celebrate the opening of Hoeve de Bies, Wijndomein Crutzberg gifted an exceptional cask: a 224-liter French oak barrique previously used for aging Chardonnay. Under the guidance of winemaker Eugène Ernest, this barrel was entrusted with a new purpose — the maturation of our Limburg whiskey.

The refined character of the Chardonnay left its imprint on the wood, allowing the whiskey to develop bright fruit tones and a subtle creaminess during maturation. The combination of Voeren’s terroir, the expertise of the winemaker and the meticulous distillation process results in a spirit with elegant balance and a distinctive regional signature.

Each bottle is hand-bottled, individually numbered and finished with its own label, carrying not just the story of its distillation, but also the identity of Sint-Martens-Voeren itself.

Taste

Elegant aromas of ripe stone fruit, vanilla and light citrus, enhanced by fresh, refined Chardonnay notes that blend seamlessly with gentle oak tones.

Soft, rounded and fresh on the entry. A subtle creaminess supports flavors of apple, pear and a hint of almond. The influence of the Chardonnay barrel creates a unique balance of fruit-driven finesse and delicate texture.
